Sennheiser Unveils New Momentum Lineup at IFA 2025

Published: June 25, 2025 | Category: News

Sennheiser announced three new Momentum headphones at IFA 2025: the Momentum 4 Wireless 2 ($399), Momentum True Wireless 4 ($299), and Momentum Sport ($199). All feature Sennheiser’s new TrueResponse XD driver, improved ANC, and 70-hour battery life on the over-ear model. Here’s what’s new and whether you should upgrade from the current Momentum 4.

Momentum 4 Wireless 2: 70-Hour Battery

The biggest upgrade is battery: 70 hours (ANC on) vs the current 60 hours. That’s already the longest in the industry. The new TrueResponse XD driver delivers 15% wider frequency response (5Hz-25kHz vs 6Hz-22kHz). ANC improved to 40dB (from 38dB). Weight: 258g (8g lighter). USB-C fast charging: 5 hours playback from 10-minute charge. Price: $399 — $50 more than the current model. The question: is the upgrade worth it? For most users, the current Momentum 4 is still excellent. The 10-hour battery bump is nice but not game-changing.

Momentum True Wireless 4: Smaller Drivers, Better Sound

The MTW 4 uses a 7mm TrueResponse XD driver (down from 9mm) with improved magnetic circuit for better transient response. Battery: 9 hours per charge + 27 hours case. ANC: -42dB (up from -38dB). IPX4 water resistance. LDAC support. Weight: 5.5g per bud. Price: $299 — same as the MTW 3. The smaller driver is a bold move, but Sennheiser’s driver design has consistently defied size expectations. Early reviews suggest the MTW 4 sounds noticeably better than the MTW 3, particularly in the treble region.

Momentum Sport: Sennheiser’s First Sports Earbuds

New category for Sennheiser: sports-focused earbuds with IP55 rating, ear hooks for secure fit, and 8-hour battery. ANC: -35dB. Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint. Price: $199 — competes directly with the Beats Fit Pro ($199) and JBL Endurance Peak 3 ($99). This is Sennheiser entering a market they’ve ignored until now. Early benchmarks suggest the sound quality beats the Beats Fit Pro by a significant margin, at the same price.

My Take

Here’s my take: if you currently own a Momentum 4, wait for the Wireless 2 — the upgrades are incremental. If you’re buying new, the current Momentum 4 at $349 is the better value (you save $50 for 85% of the performance). The Momentum Sport ($199) is the most exciting announcement — Sennheiser finally making sports earbuds with audiophile sound quality. If you run or work out, this could be a game-changer.
