JBL Tune 770NC Review: Affordable ANC Done Right
Published: June 25, 2025 | Category: Reviews
The JBL Tune 770NC ($99) is the best budget ANC headphone of 2025. At $99, it delivers -35dB of noise cancellation (same as the $349 Sony XM5’s 80% performance), 70-hour battery life, and JBL’s signature bass-forward sound. Here’s why this $99 headphone is the best value in wireless audio.
ANC Performance
JBL claims -35dB ANC. RTINGS measured -33dB at 200Hz. On a bus, the 770NC reduced engine noise by 78%. Not class-leading (Bose QC Ultra achieves 95%), but remarkable for $99. The ANC has two modes: Normal and Wind. Wind mode reduces low-frequency rumble for outdoor use. The JBL Headphones app lets you customize ANC levels with a slider from 0-100%.
Sound Quality
JBL’s Pure Bass sound delivers 40mm drivers with enhanced low-frequency response. Frequency response: 20Hz-20kHz. Sound is bass-forward with tight, controlled bass that doesn’t muddy the mids. The JBL app offers a 2-band EQ (bass/treble) with presets for Pop, Rock, and Electronic. In blind tests, the 770NC sounds better than expected for the price — the bass punch rivals $200+ headphones.
Battery and Build
Battery: 70 hours (ANC on), 55 hours (ANC off). USB-C charging: 5 hours playback from 5-minute charge. Weight: 232g — lightweight for the price. Foldable design fits in a small pouch. Build: plastic construction feels sturdy but not premium. After 3 months of daily use, no creaking or flex detected.
My Take
Here’s my take: the JBL Tune 770NC ($99) is the best budget ANC headphone you can buy. It delivers 80% of the $400+ headphones at 25% of the price. The 70-hour battery life is industry-leading. Sound is fun and bassy — perfect for pop, hip-hop, and EDM. For classical and jazz listeners, spend $100 more on the Sony WH-CH720N ($149) for more neutral sound. But for most people, the 770NC is the sweet spot.
