CES 2025 Headphone Highlights: Best New Products

Published: June 25, 2025 | Category: News

CES 2025 in Las Vegas showcased the biggest shifts in headphone technology: AI-driven adaptive ANC, modular repairable designs, and the first consumer headphones with built-in hearing protection. Here are the standout products and technologies that will reach stores in 2025.

Sony WH-1000XM6 Prototype

Sony demonstrated a refined XM6 prototype with a 15% weight reduction (from 250g to 212g), new bio-cellulose drivers, and AI-powered ANC that adapts in real-time to your ear canal geometry. The prototype uses a small onboard sensor to map your ear shape and adjusts the ANC frequency response accordingly. Expected retail: $399. Launch: Q3 2025. This is the most anticipated headphone of the year.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Open

Bose’s first open-ear headphone uses bone conduction + directional air transducers to deliver sound without inserting anything into or covering the ear. The design keeps your ears open to ambient sound (safe for walking/cycling) while providing surprisingly full audio. Demonstrated ANC-like isolation through beamforming speakers. Weight: 185g. Price: TBD. Category: entirely new for Bose.

Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless

Sennheiser showed the Momentum 5 with a revolutionary modular design: every component (earpads, batteries, drivers, headband cushion) is user-replaceable with a screwdriver included in the box. The battery is a standard 18650 cell that can be swapped in 30 seconds. Sennheiser claims a 10-year lifespan for the Momentum 5, unprecedented in consumer audio. Sound: 45mm planar magnetic driver with aptX Lossless. Price: $449.

Apple AirPods Pro 3

Apple unveiled the AirPods Pro 3 with H3 chip, improved ANC (claimed 3x better than Pro 2), and a new hearing health feature that monitors your daily sound exposure and suggests safe listening limits. The ear tips now come in 5 sizes (vs 3 previously) with a pressure-equalizing vent design. USB-C charging case with wireless charging. Price: $279.

Other Notable Announcements

Master & Dynamic MH40: Premium over-ears with hand-stitched leather earpads, aluminum drivers, and 30-hour battery. Price: $599. Shure AONIC 50 Gen 3: Studio-grade wireless with removable cables and professional-grade ANC. Price: $399. Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X: Open-back wired headphones with Tesla drivers at $499 — aimed at the home studio market. Nothing Ear (stick) 2: The transparent aesthetic continues with improved ANC and a lower price point of $99.

My Take

CES 2025 revealed three clear trends: modularity/repairability is moving from niche to mainstream (Sennheiser leading), AI-adaptive ANC is becoming a differentiator (Sony’s ear-shape mapping is impressive), and hearing health is the new feature battleground (Apple’s sound exposure monitoring). The most exciting product isn’t the most expensive — it’s the Sennheiser Momentum 5’s repairable design. If every headphone brand adopted modular replacement, e-waste from audio equipment would drop dramatically. Watch for these products hitting shelves in Q3-Q4 2025.
