Skullcandy Crusher Evo Review: Feel the Bass
Published: June 25, 2025 | Category: Reviews
The Skullcandy Crusher Evo ($199) has a haptic bass driver that you can feel in your chest. Turn the dial on the earcup and the bass intensity increases from “subtle” to “my ribs are vibrating.” It’s gimmicky — until you put on a bass-heavy track and realize it’s actually kind of amazing. Here’s whether the haptic bass is a novelty or a genuine feature.
Haptic Bass: Novelty or Useful?
The Crusher Evo’s 50mm drivers include a dedicated haptic transducer that creates physical vibration at frequencies below 100Hz. You control the intensity with a dial on the right earcup. At level 3 (out of 5), the bass is tight and punchy. At level 5, it’s overwhelming — great for EDM and hip-hop, terrible for classical and jazz. The haptic feature is unique in the headphone industry — no other brand offers tactile bass feedback.
Sound Quality and ANC
Without haptics, the Crusher Evo sounds like a $100 headphone — bass-heavy with muddy mids. With haptics at level 3, it sounds like $200. ANC: -30dB (adequate but not class-leading). Battery: 40 hours (best in class at this price). Bluetooth 5.0. Weight: 258g. The Skullcandy app offers a 5-band EQ for fine-tuning.
My Take
Here’s my take: the Crusher Evo is for people who love bass. If you listen to EDM, hip-hop, and trap, the haptic bass is a game-changer — no other headphone delivers this level of physical feedback. If you listen to anything else, skip it. The $199 price is fair for the feature set, but the haptic bass is the only reason to buy it. Turn it off and you’re paying $199 for $100 sound.
