Google Pixel Buds Pro Review: Assistant-First Design
Published: June 25, 2025 | Category: Reviews
The Google Pixel Buds Pro ($199) are the best earbuds for Android users who live in the Google ecosystem. With 28-hour battery, -40dB ANC, and integrated Gemini AI, they’re a strong competitor to the AirPods Pro 2. But they’re not for everyone — here’s who should actually buy them.
Sound Quality
Custom 11mm dynamic drivers deliver rich bass and clear mids. Frequency response: 20Hz-20kHz. Google’s Adaptive Sound uses machine learning to adjust EQ based on your ear shape and listening environment. Sound is warm and engaging — not as neutral as the Sony WF-1000XM5 but more fun for casual listening. The Pixel Buds app offers a 5-band EQ with presets for Classical, Podcast, and Vocal.
ANC and Features
ANC: -40dB (RTINGS measurement). Google claims “industry-leading” noise cancellation. In practice, it’s 90% as good as the AirPods Pro 2. Battery: 8 hours per charge + 20 hours case. IPX4 water resistance. Wireless charging. Multipoint Bluetooth. The Gemini integration allows voice commands that understand context — “play something upbeat” actually works, unlike Siri’s generic responses.
Pros and Cons
Pros: Great ANC, 28-hour total battery, Gemini AI integration, comfortable fit, IPX4 rating, multipoint Bluetooth, $199 price. Cons: No LDAC support (only AAC), ANC not quite class-leading, Gemini requires Google account, no wireless charging case on base model.
My Take
Here’s my take: if you have a Pixel phone, the Pixel Buds Pro ($199) are the best earbuds you can buy. The Gemini integration is genuinely useful, and the sound quality is excellent. For non-Pixel Android users, the Sony WF-1000XM5 ($279) sounds better. For iPhone users, the AirPods Pro 2 ($249) integrate better. The Pixel Buds Pro are ecosystem-bound — they shine with Pixel phones but lose their magic on other devices.
